INTRODUCTION
The course is designed to provide:
- A practical enhancement to PHS Training 1 to enable the officers to carry out a rescue using a pre-selected rescue kit. The kit will be chosen specifically to suit the officers situation
- The officers will also be given a knowledge of alternative types of rescue equipment available
COURSE SYLLABUS
Theory
In addition to the theory acquired on the PHS Training 1, the following elements will be covered:
- The importance of officer’s personal safety before and during any rescue
- Strengths and characteristics of equipment contained within the rescue kit
- The issues associated with suspension trauma
- The importance of casualty management.
Practical
Officers will re-cap the following elements from the PHS Training 1:
- Correct fitting and adjustment of a fall arrest harness
- Correct fitting and adjustment of the SpanSet Casualty harness
- The use of double fall arrest lanyards
A choice of Rescue 1
- The use of a self-locking descender to abseil for individual evacuation
- The use of a rescue kit containing a self-locking descender to access an injured officer and evacuate them down to safety
or Rescue 2
- The use of a rescue kit with raising and lowering capability
- Raising an injured officer back to safety
- Lowering an injured officer down to safety
All of the practical systems must be demonstrated and their correct applications understood by all delegates in order to complete the course.
