Module 5 / Rescue from Towers, Masts and Structures

REGISTRATION AND PRE-COURSE INSTRUCTIONS

  • All delegates to be registered on the course registration form
  • All delegates to be advised of the following
    · Fire procedure
    · Toilets and welfare

This Module is designed as an enhancement of module 1 and is only carried out when delegates have successfully completed that module.

INTRODUCTION

The course is designed to provide;

  • A practical enhancement to module 1 to enable the delegates to carry out a rescue using pre-selected rescue kit. The kit will be chosen to suit the clients situation.
  • The delegates will also be given knowledge of alternative types of rescue equipment.

COURSE SYLLABUS

Theory

In addition to the theory elements of module 1 the following topics will be covered.

  • The importance of personal safety whilst carrying out a rescue.
  • The problems assosiated with suspension trauma.
  • The importance of casualty management.

COURSE SYLLABUS

Practical

In addition to the practical elements af module 1 the following topics will be covered.

  • Correct fitting and ajdustment of fall arrest harness by all delegates.
  • The use of fall arrest lanyards.
  • The use of double fall arrest lanyards.

Option A

  • The use of a self-locking decsender to abseil.
  • The use of a rescue kit containing a self-locking descender to access a casualty and evacuate them down safety.

Option B

  • The use of a rescue kit with raising and lowering capability.
  • Raising a casualty back to safety.
  • Lowering a casualty down to safety.

COURSE SUMMARY

  • In addition to the test carried out in module 1 all delegates will be monitored by the trainer throughout the practical sessions. Any concerns will be addressed by delegate and trainer on a continual basis.
  • The rescue will be carried out in stages and if at any point the trainer is unhappy with the standard attained then the delegate will be unable to continue.If the matter is resolved then the delegate my re-join the course.
  • Summarise the topics covered during the course.
  • Issue course feedback forms.
  • Thank the delegates for attending.

  • 2 point fall arrest harness
  • Inertia block
  • Fall arrest harnesses
  • Double slinging fall arrest lanyards
  • SHARK
  • Pole top rescue kit
  • Spanhoist kit
  • GOTCHA

FEEDBACK TO CLIENT AFTER COURSE

  • Certificate for all delegates, valid for three years
  • Photo ID card for all delegates, valid for three years
